Independance Tour

This is for everyone who asked me to write a blog about my trip across the United States of America on our Renaissance in "Independence 1"

Ok, so we (Jen) and myself have sent our youngest off to college and now are in our renaissance period of our life.  What are we going to do?   Travel.  Jen has never traveled the US and we decided to rent an RV, pack up and head west.  As a kid, I traveled to all the "non fun" states and saw the largest ball of twine and the ball of mud.  I thought it was time for Jen to experience the same.  Tenting was never an option so we decided to go Glamping.  Unfortunately, the cost to rent an RV was super expensive for even a small one, so we decided to buy one!  A used RV that is like a bus that we have added our personal touches to;  Sat TV, Wifi, computers, printers, stereos, cameras, hard wood floors, new cushions and a graphics package so cool, your head will literally spin.  This blog will document our journey across the US.  By the way, we are also bringing our babies, Dora and Lupe but may end up shipping them home if they prove to be a pain in the ass.

There is already a huge controversy on the "graphics" package we have chosen and it seems to be split at about the age of 40.  We had toyed with doing a shark front, Fire Truck or even the Mystery Van from Scooby Doo but settled on a LARGE United States of America flag.  This has been in the process for about 4 months now with a lot of tweaking and planning but is finally getting installed as I write.  The experts at Lighthouse Signs have taken this project on and have done a great job so far.  Hopefully they will finish soon so we can actually leave.  After all the recent controversy of the "kneeling for the anthem" that has been top of the news, this feels even more appropriate to me and Jen and most of the over 40 year olds.

The trip itinerary as of right now.  Monday-Philadelphia to have dinner with Kasey, Tuesday-Thursday Annapolis, MD to visit Washington, Annapolis and the boat show.  Friday-Sunday-JMU (James Madison University) to visit Abby and then on to Michigan, South Dakota, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and then back home.  Obviously this is a loose trip and we are going to make changes as we go.

OK, he ran into the first hick-up (before we left).   The wrap on the RV is not done and we pushed off our departure two days. We are now leaving Tuesday 10 AM. Stopping by Branford truckstop  to check the rig and onto Greenwich to show our RV to Jen’s cousin Greg.  Then on to Philadelphia to fix Kasey’s bed and have dinner.

I will update periodically and hopefully post some really good pictures but the top picture is a "mock up" of the wrap we developed before installation.  The bottom picture is the girls on the way to the start of our trip.  Now you can get an idea of the subtle way we like to travel.

...more to come
